(G:) It is G, what is going on? It's well, 24 hours away from yet another weekend, and we got some action happening in the forecast in the form of freezing rain and ice pellets. We'll give you the full details in just a few minutes. Tonight there's a fantastic benefit concert happening down at the Time To Laugh Comedy Club. Joining me right now, we have Dave Tessier. Dave Tessier is with a band called Rozea Haven, and he's a part of the benefits show and you may have been reading in The Whig last week about your situation. Now, Dave first, welcome to the G show.
(D:) Well, thank you very much for having me.
(G:) Anytime, anytime. I was reading and I was talking to one of our people. I said, we have to get Dave in here. Let's talk about it. I want to talk about the show and about your situation. You were diagnosed just recently with a sarcoma.
(D:) Yes.
(G:) And tonight we are having a benefit show at the time to laugh comedy club, obviously to raise funds for sarcoma research. But why don't you just give us in a nutshell, what went down. I mean, obviously a lot of people out there have fears of this happening. I mean, I think everybody is it's a terrible disease and this happened to you. What kind of mindset did you go. Through when that happened?
(D:) Well basically when I was told that I had the cancer it was kind of just a blow to the head because actually, I had a biopsy done of it where they told me that it wasn't cancer at first. So, all that worry that kind of went away, came back in a big shock and it was a little hard to deal with at first but after I kind of got over the immediate shock about it, the thing I was thinking about was, well, this is going to affect my drumming hard, like, you know, pretty badly. So, you know, I thought, what can I do in terms of something that's gonna push my drumming, and, you know, not totally have a bad effect with the cancer. So I figured, you know, some kind of benefit show would be a good idea.
(G:) Now, you were just talking off air moments ago that you know, five, six months ago, you noticed kind of a little bump in your arm and it since obviously turned out to be, to be sarcoma. What's that like? You know, you're a drummer, so obviously, especially the placement of this has to bring out a lot of fear. I mean, that must have been a particular scene, man.
(D:) Definitely. Well, we all know the drummer from Def Leppard did the one arm deal and, you know, that's, that's what I've been getting told a lot, you know, is, you know, worst case scenario, if I do have to lose my arm, then, you know, you know, I'm not gonna stop drumming or nothing like that, but, you know, that's... that is my biggest fear at this moment.
(G:) You know what? That's an amazing attitude, man. You know, a lot of people you know, when they're faced with incredible tragedies you know, kind of crawl up in a ball in a corner and feel sorry for themselves. Other people react a little differently, they turn lemons into lemonade and that sounds like what you're doing. And, you know, it's really cool for you to come on the air to talk about people, because I think there's a lot of people walking out there right now. If you could give advice to them, you know, any health advice you know, what would that be? Would it be to get checked up? Obviously.
(D:) You know, the funny thing about that is I have no clue. Like, with this particular kind of sarcoma, they don't even know how it starts. It's totally unknown, which is unfortunate because it's, I don't even know how to describe it, it's just a totally random kind of thing that just can appear in most. And it is mostly a youth-driven cancer.
(G:) Yeah, really?
(D:) Yes. This particular kind called an alveolar soft part sarcoma, is found mostly in youth. And I don't know whether that has something to do with the cause being unknown, but it is just totally confused at the moment with...
(G:) Yeah, well, you know what? That's why we're here, because obviously research is gonna cost money and you guys are doing a benefit show tonight down at the time of. Comedy club, so it's exactly important that people come out and take part. Now this evening, Dave Tessie is joining me so he's 19 years old. You're with a band called Rozea Haven. We've got a few bands on the stage also, I believe it's Attison, Sumthinugly. Those guys rock. And also Team Fence, a. aand that's in our Band Slam competition right now. So it's a fantastic lineup. What's shaking tonight? How's things going? To go.
(D:) Well, the lineup, if you're wondering about that, is basically gonna start with Team Fence, and then it's gonna go to Attison, which I'm actually also drumming in Attison, as well as Rozea Haven, and then Sumthinugly is gonna give me a break in between those sets.
(G:) Yeah.
(D:) Rozea's gonna rock out and just get some fun people out there. You know, it's, It's, hopefully we'll get some people who just, you know, want to rock hard and just go for the cause.
(G:) Wicked. Now how much tickets?
(D:) Tickets are $8, and what we're doing is to get people to push out a little more money for $2 extra, you can get our Rozea album, and that extra $2 isn't going Rozea, it's going towards the cancer research as well. So just gets people to give a little more, and, you know, it's like $2 for an album, can't really complain.
(G:) No, it's a fantastic, and you guys rock hard, man.
(D:) Oh, totally!
(G:) And there's a lot of people in this town that love to rock hard. So they should be downtown at The time to laugh comedy club tonight, man. Well, you know, David, Tessier, thanks so much for coming in, because it takes a lot of bravery to do what you're doing. And you know what? That kind of mindset's gonna get you through this. No problem, man. I have no doubt in my mind, brother.
(D:) Thank you. Appreciate it.
(G:) All right, tonight, Time to Laugh Comedy Club. Doors open at what time?
(D:) 6:30.
(G:) 6:30. First band on it was it 7:00?
(D:) Yes
(G:) All right, and a fantastic cause again tickets $8. I assume you can get them at the door?
(D:) Yep. All at the door.
(G:) All right. In the hub, Time to Laugh comedy club raising funds for sarcoma research at Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto. David Tessier, Rozeah Haven. Rock on, brother. Thanks for coming in, and good luck with everything. All right?
